Keith Wood, of the Colorado State Forest Service, was on hand to present
Mayor Muckle with Superior’s Tree City USA designation. This is the fourth year
in a row that Superior has been designated Tree City USA. Keith explained the Tree City USA requirements; the community must:
- have a tree board or department. Superior’s Planning Commission fills this role.
- have a tree care ordinance.
- spend at least $2 per person on planting trees.
- must have an Arbor Day observance. This is it!

Immediately after the Purple Park portion of the celebration wrapped up, people
went down to Community Park
for the tree planting part of the celebration. Members of the Superior Mustangs
football program were in uniform to help with the planting of 20 cottonwood trees. The trees were planted in two areas: on the north and south sides of Rock Creek just north of the Williams Field (the new synthetic turf field), and close to the houses just north of there.
